I have heard that the current droid keyboard that we see in all the pictures is not the final keyboard.  I would sure hate to purchase one and then find that a better keyboard is introduced in a couple of months.  Has anyone heard anything about this?

whats the verdict on the Virtual keyboard boys?

i was at verizon today and i could not figure out how to open up the virt. keyboard. really made me angry.
but i was very happy when i read that the virt. keyboard has a t9 feature. i find this much more easy to type when driving.

on the other hand, i found the physical keyboard quite awesome. i use my nails to text so it felt great. my hand started to cramp um because of the stupid giant security anit theft contraption on the back of the phone, but other than that it felt great. dpad isnt really nessecasry, but its nice.

i think with every phone they should just have what the omnia had...the motion censored 4way dpad/optical mouse. the button is super super small and works fantastic. one of the best inventions IMO>

I came off a BB pearl and I love love the droid keyboards both of them. If I am typeing a lot I tend to use the hard one. I do wish that T9 worked on both however.

I think both the onscreen, and physical keyboards, are laid out fine, and work well. No complaints here.

I find it really easy to type. I had a phone for a long while with a keyboard, I've had a phone for a while that just had a virtual, and now I use this that has both. NOTHING beats actually typing on a keyboard and I'm so glad this has both. I use the virtual .00001% of the time and the keyboard the other 99%. I find it SO easy to use. I don't see how it's difficult for people. = /

Coming from a PALM Treo, with the Raised keyboard where you can type with one hand using thumb only fast to Droid now where it's two hands and miss keys a lot is frustrating in my 1st week of use so far...

You actually need to download a 3rd party keyboard from the Market to use T9.

The most popular one is called Better Keyboard. It's 2.99 in the market. EvenBetter Keyboard is 3.99 and appears to have even better functionality. Handcent KeyBoard is a good free alternative.

The only problem with Better Keyboard was the bug with using capital letters with the compact keyboard. They said it was a known bug and wait for the update but still no update so I uninstalled for now.
