Week #2 Google Voice Give-Away.
You want Google Voice on your phone? Well here's how you could get selected for the free give-away. Below, I have a list of simple questions, all of which the answer could either be found on this board, and/or should be known by common-knowledge. All you have to do is register on these boards, come in to this topic, and answer one of these questions CORRECTLY.
IMPORTANT!!!: You can NOT answer questions already answered! If the question is "What is 2+2?" and someone says 4, you can't post that later. So, one question per person. So be sure to read replies before posting, but I'll be updating this post to indicate which questions have been answered correctly, but I may not be available to update immediately. I will let you know in this topic if you answered incorrectly, so that you may try again, or choose another question.
IMPORTANT!!!: You can only answer one question successfully. If you answer a second, you will be disqualified. If you post spoilers of quick ways to find answers or anything of the sort for people, you will be disqualified. If you are a previous winner, I'm sorry, but you're not able to enter into this drawing again. You can only win once.
IMPORTANT!!!: The winner is selected by me entering everyone's names into a program that will randomly select one name. I will be doing this at 4PM PST on Friday December 11th, 2009(Same day as the big Droid update!!!). I will then post the name of the winner in this topic. The winner will have 24 hours to respond to the post, or I will be selecting a new winner. Upon the winner's response, I will send them the Google Voice invite through PM.
Here is some information on Google Voice and the features it offers. I only want people to register for this drawing if they're interested in the features that Google Voice offers:
Well, I've got Google Voice up and running fully on my Droid. I'm pleased to say it was really fast and easy to set up. I am not able to enjoy every feature like everyone else, because I chose to not get a new phone number, and just merge Google Voice with the number currently on my cell phone. The main reason I wanted it was for the free visual voicemail. Here are the features that I can now use with Google Voice:
-Free Visual Voicemail along with the option to transcribe voicemails to read them rather than listen. (NOTE: Google Voice is basically a BETA right now, and therefore the transcription is hit and miss quality at the moment).
-Option to use Google Voice for international calls at a better rate than Verizon, without using any minutes. Calls will be through the 3g Connection.
Not a whole lot there for me, but honestly, that's all I wanted from Google Voice. Here's the features I could have gotten had I chosen to get a FREE Google phone number:
-Free Text Messaging to my Google Voice number. Texts are sent and received through data under the 3g connection, and therefore are undetected by Verizon, and free of charge.
-Free Phone Calls to both local and long distance (as well as the cheep international rates). Again, you use the 3g connection for phone calls through Google Voice, and therefore don't use any minutes. This is a good alternative solution to those of you who are constantly using minutes. Again, Verizon will not detect the phone call, and your minutes will NOT be used.
-Free Visual Voicemail working the same exact way as with my phone number, mentioned above.
-Call Forwarding. When someone calls your Google Voice phone number, you set the what will ring. You can have your cell and/or home and/or office and/or any other phone ring. That's right, if you're sitting at home and you have your Google Voice number linked to both your home and cell phones, You will hear both ring simultaniously if your Google Voice number is called. Pretty neat, right?
-Making Phone Calls. You don't need to open the Google Voice program to use it for your phone calls. Within the program, you choose in settings to either use Google Voice for all calls, only for international, or not at all. Depending on the setting, it will know whether or not to use Google voice for your calls, or your normal cell phone number, charging minutes. There is a widget you can add for quick toggling of these modes.
