Zip through the Web: Access the Internet at 3G speeds via the nation’s largest and most reliable 3G network or from any Wi-Fi hotspot.  The multi-window HTML browser with a massive processor delivers the Web the way you expect.

Bummer - right now it looks like they are expending all their resources on the Nokia ( Coming Soon - Firefox for Nokia N900 ).

Here is a review of the "mobile" version of FireFox:  The New Mobile Firefox Browser

UPDATE: Mozilla posts the fifth beta of Fennec mobile Firefox - An Android version is also planned at a later stage. No iPhone release has been announced because Fennec is built around Mozilla’s Gecko platform and Apple only allows apps that use Apple-provided frameworks. There won’t be a BlackBerry version either.

Firefox mobile may yet come to Android
By: Jeremy Sikora
Tuesday, 08 December 2009
Our lucky friends over at WMExperts have been testing Firefox Mobile Alpha 3, but we haven't had much hope for Android to get the Fennec browser. That is, until a recent Q&A with Madhava Enros, the mobile UI lead for Mozilla, left slip that "there is investigation going on into making it work on Android."

Yes, we know it is not much to go off of. But at least it is better than a flat "no." This indeed can be great news for those of you hopeing for a Firefox mobile expierence on your Android devices.

I hope to get it soon. We didn't see one in December but this will no doubt be the browser to get on all phones.

Mozilla Fennec Shown Off On Motorola DROID, Nexus One
February 27th, 2010
Technology by Eric
  - There isn’t a ton of information to go along with this post, but we thought we’d sharing it with you anyhow. Mozilla’s Fennec mobile browser has been spotted running on both the Motorola DROID and HTC’s Nexus One (a.k.a. Google phone). The images come courtesy of Firefox for Mobile’s Facebook fan page.

The browser is looking like a work in progress, naturally — as it is, so we haven’t yet seen anything spectacular. In essence, the Fennec start page.

More as they come, and another shot is available after the break.

Firefox for Android Showcased on Nexus One and DROID
The final release expected to arrive this year
By Ionut Arghire, Mobile Editor
March 1st, 2010, 10:35 GMT
- Mozilla announced not too long ago that it was making steady progress with the development of their Firefox for Mobile browser meant for devices powered by Google's Android operating system, and now they gave a few more hints as how the solution would look like when available. There are two photos with Firefox Mobile for Android available for your viewing pleasure, one showing the solution on the Nexus One by HTC, while the other shows it running on Motorola's DROID, both of which are shown on Mozilla's Facebook page.

For the time being, all that Mozilla shares with users is that they are working on the development of the mobile browser and that the solution is set to land on the market sometime before the end of the ongoing year, but there are no builds released for those willing to give it a try. We already learned that the Android flavor of the browser had reached the stage at which is can display pages, but an alpha version will arrive at a later date, it seems.

According to the developing team, the Firefox Mobile browser for devices running under Google's Android operating system will come around with the same user interface as the one available with the desktop version of the application, due to the fact that it was “significantly more complex than the mobile UI and stresses Gecko much more.”

In other words, Android users out there should enjoy the same experience on their handsets as on their desktop computers, through they'll still have to wait a few more months before they can do so.

Android is only one of the mobile platforms Mozilla announced it planned on working with. The company already released a final flavor of its mobile browser for handsets powered by Nokia's Maemo operating system, and Nokia N900 owners can already download the solution from the Ovi Store, and there is also an alpha version of the browser available for those who own a Windows Mobile-based device. This browser flavor is compatible with the older Windows Mobile 6.x from Microsoft, yet Mozilla said that they were considering the development of a Windows Phone 7 Series compatible solution too.

- An official and final version for Firefox  Mobile is only available for the Nokia N900, probably because it’s one of the most open-source devices in the world. Being tired of the Dolphin browser currently found on his Motorola Droid (actually, Milestone because he’s from Europe), MartinSchirr decided to port Mozilla’s Fennec browser on the Android-powered smartphone. Please note that this is still an early version and regular users should hold themselves from installing the app.

Martin even posted a couple of videos in order to show that it works. You can check the videos below and you’ll notice that the app runs almost as smooth as on the N900. I’ve got to say that Firefox Mobile for the Maemo 5-powered device is not among the fastest apps in the world, but it does have some extra features, albeit missing a few things that N900’s MicroB browser has. You should check the Android Forums right away if you want to install this alpha version of Firefox for Android, or you could wait a few months when a beta version is scheduled for release.

P.S. I wouldn’t hold my breath until this happens and I wouldn’t wait for Mozilla to officially port the browser to the Android community.

P.P.S Firefox for Android only works with phones featuring OpenGL ES 2.0 support.

- Last month we had reported about an early build of Fennec (Firefox browser for Mobiles) for Android phones. The real fact was that, it was not an official build, instead was put together by an unknown person and was just optimized for Motorola Droid.

But now Mozilla has officially released pre-Alpha build of Fennec that would at least work on Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One. Note that this is only a pre-Alpha build of the browser for testing purposes.

Fennec Browser for Android

Being Pre-alpha release, Fennec for Android is really buggy and only works with Android 2.0 though it does support extensions. You might want to read below warnings before proceeding for Fennec Pre-alpha published by Vladimir.

   1. We’ve only really tested this on the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One.

    2. It will likely not eat your phone, but bugs might cause your phone to stop responding, requiring a reboot.

    3. Memory usage of this build isn’t great — in many ways it’s a debug build, and we haven’t really done a lot of optimization yet.  This could cause some problems with large pages, especially on low memory devices like the Droid.

    4. You’ll see the app exit and relaunch on first start, as well as on add-on installs; this is a quirk of our install process, and we’re working to get rid of it.

    5. You can’t open links from other apps using Fennec; we should have this for the next build.

    6. This build requires Android 2.0 or above, and likely an OpenGL ES 2.0 capable device

To get this pre-Alpha build of Fennec browser, you can point your phone browser to bit.ly/fennec-android  (Direct APK Download Link). Before installing it, make sure to make your settings to allow you to install non-market apps. To make sure goto Settings-> Application-> and check “Unknown Sources”.

Firefox for Android Gets Nightly Builds
By Ionut Arghire
Mobile Editor
May 19th, 2010, 09:08 GMT
- Firefox for Android is in its very early development stages, yet progress is being made, and those who are working on it have just announced a new step forward, in the form of nightly builds for the mobile browser. Currently, the solution is in a pre-alpha status, and works only on some devices, namely on Nexus One and Motorola DROID, requiring Google Android 2.0 or higher , OpenGL ES2.0, and an ARMv7 (Cortex) processor, but more devices are expected to be added into the equation soon.

“Our automated build machines have just started producing pre-alpha Fennec for Android builds with the latest changes from developers each night. We have similar builds for the desktop version of Firefox and for the N900 to let testers have a way of getting the latest changes to provide feedback and report bugs. There are many changes that go in to each build, causing quality to vary some from day to day, but we’re always working to improve and stabilize the builds,” a recent post on blog.pavlov.net states.

For the time being, the Firefox for Android builds that are pushed out are still pre-alpha, yet advancements are being made, and they should change in time. The developing team managed to make a series of exciting changes to the solution, and the next weeks should bring to the table something more concrete, it seems. The final version of the mobile browser is targeted to land before the end of the ongoing year, which means that the first beta flavors should arrive pretty soon.

While the browser has been tested only on Nexus One and DROID, others managed to install it on handsets like Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible), HTC Legend, Desire and Samsung Galaxy Spica too. “We currently only run on Android 2.0 and above, and some bugs could cause your phone to stop responding, requiring a reboot. If you have installed our earlier build, you will need to uninstall it before this one will install due to a change in the way the builds are signed. These builds do not auto-update yet, so you’ll have to manually grab a new build when you want to see the newest changes,” the blog post continues. Additional info on the latest advancements on Firefox for Android can be found here.

- Mozilla's mobile version of Firefox is now available in Alpha release for those of you with devices running Android 2.0 and above. Codenamed Fennec, it is the first mobile browser to offer add-ons and is built on the same technology that powers the desktop version of Firefox.

Keep in mind this is an Alpha release so you will likely experience a few bugs. An updated Beta release is planned for the coming weeks. If you decide to test it out, make sure you stop by the support forum to provide your feedback.
