I put this "brief" Search Tutorial together for the LG-Dare Forum.  Since the Motorola-Droid Forum uses the same Forum software - it will work the same.

Search for: - This field allows you to search for one or more terms within a posting.  While you can just type (and search for) any combination of characters, you should consider using quotes to make your search really work for you.  Enclosing the search string in double quote marks (ie: "simple machines forum") will return only the entire phrase.

• So, if you enter: game flash it will ONLY bring back posts with the words  game and flash
• If you enter (with quotes):  "game flash" it will ONLY bring back posts with "game flash" side-by-side.
• If you enter:  "home charger" usb it will ONLY bring back posts with "home charger" side-by-side AND  usb in the post(s).

by user: -  The default * in the by user field is essentially a wildcard matching any poster. Please note that, while you can replace this with any single username for a more specific search, it's not currently possible to search for posts by multiple users except as that single wildcard.

• NOTE:  You must place something in the Search for: box or you will be greeted by Did you forget to put something to search for?
• If you enter: by user: vpnavy and Search for: touch screen - it will bring back ONLY posts by vpnavy with touch screen in the post(s).

Show results as messages: - Returns the full message containing the search string (with a Reply option) instead of the usual linked excerpt, but will naturally result in much larger results pages which might be significant if you are searching for a popular word or phrase.

Search in topic subjects only: - Returns ONLY those message subjects containing your Search Criteria and not the body of the actual message.



Message age: - Sets the minimum and maximum ages of posts to search.  This is great if you remember it was posted a few weeks ago and don't want returns to include the entire forum.



Choose a Board to search in, or search all: -  This provides you with another tool to narrow the scope of the search, with the default being 'all' (the whole Forum or, more properly, all the boards to which you have read access).

• Now, if you want to narrow the search to one (or more) boards, just tap Choose a Board to search in, or search all: and a menu will pop up listing all the boards.  You can (check or uncheck) the appropriate boards you want to search.

Check all: -  If you leave this checked and you tap Choose a Board to search in, or search all:...all boards will be checked (by default).

• If it isn't checked - all boards will not be checked.  Remember, a check means it will be searched.
