HTC Droid Incredible Stock (For Now)

« on: November 12, 2009, 04:38:12 PM »

Just received the Multimedia Docking Station today. It's the dock, USB cable, and charger, so I don't think $30 is overly expensive. It's going to be perfect on my nightstand, and I won't have to worry about charging anymore. I think it will also be great for travelling.

The docking station is awesome!! I am so happy Motorola did that. I hate when a phone does not have charging options and the only charging setting is a blank screen. I agree that the price is good considering Verizon charges the same price for a car charger!!

When I ordered my Droid, I bought the Bodyglove case for it, and I found that to be too bulky. It was the same price as the dock, so I just exchanged that for the dock.

Rooted Droidmod 1.0 1GHz Overclocked

My wife bought me the multimedia dock... I was very disappointed with the length of the usb cord.  I can deal with the short cord that came with the phone...but WTF make a longer cord for the accessories.  Now I need to get an extension cord to use the phone as an alarm clock.

Tweedz,

I totally agree!! I got my droid the first day and knew that I was getting the multimedia dock. When I got home and went to put it on my nightstand I couldn't believe just how short that chord was!! Luckily I had an extra extension chord at home. Pretty lame on Motorola's part if you ask me. Oh well, still love it!!

So where did you get this multimedia station from?

I ordered it through my local VZW store, and they had it shipped directly to me.

They were sold out at my Vzw store when I got mine.  Sad I need to go back and pick one up. Are they put together pretty well, solid build.

Got my multimedia station last night. I'm suprised, it's actually quite sturdy, I expected it to be somewhat cheep plastic, but nope, it's good quality, just like the car dock. It also has the rubber feet for it to grip to its surface.

My one gripe on the Multimedia Station would be the short power cord. But that's okay, I just took it to work so I have a charger at my job. I used my old Dare charger as the power cord for the Multimedia station, since it has a much longer cord.

So i'm pretty well set, have that charger, one at work, car charger, and of course the one that came with the phone to use for pc connection.

Yeah, I was stoked to find all my old Dare chargers worked with my Droid. My wife (who now has the Dare) previously had an LG Chocolate 3 which also used the same micro usb, so now we have lots of compatible chargers and cables. Something interesting though, travelling over the Thanksgiving weekend, we got our wall chargers switched one night. I plugged my Droid in with the Dare charger (which worked fine), but when my wife plugged in the Dare with the Droid charger, the Dare said something like "warning: charger not recommended for this device, may cause damage." Which got me worried . . . is there any danger of damaging the Droid by using the LG usb charger?

I will have to look into this more at home (working with my Droid from work), but so far from what I can findonline it sounds like the problem is with LG phones being very sensitive to any voltage variance. I bought my wife a Motorola car charger for her LG touch and it works fine, but when she plugs it into my wall charger she gets the same message. Obviously her car charger would not harm my Droid seeing as it is Motorola. I will see if I can find more info in the morning after work.

I searched the net and found...

A bunch of former LG Dare users running their charger's on the Droid.  As far as the charger not recommended  message (which indicates it won't charge) when you plug your Droid charger into the LG Dare -  I believe this response (below) might explain the reason.

A regular-sized USB connector has 4 pins(+5vdc, data-, data+, ground). Housing could be considered an extra contact but it usually replicates the ground lead. Mini and micro USB has 5 pins: +5vdc, data-, data+, ID and ground.  On generic cables and chargers, ID pin is either not connected at all, or coupled to ground.  Some brands, driven by strange desire to have only THEIR brand accessories to work, play tricks with the ID pin.  For example, for most Moto devices to accept a charger, its ID pin must be coupled to ground via a 200kOhm resistor.  Oh, and a 'standard' Moto car power adapter shorts ID to both data pins - which tells the device to go into car mode (i.e. screen stays lit) - but WILL NOT CHARGE it.

FWIW, I found this package on amazon for $3.50, it has a wall charger, a car charger and a data cable, and claims A855 compatibility. Did not test the car charger yet, but the wall and data cables work fine.
