The Droid (A855) has Magnetic Sensors to support operation with car holder and desktop cradle accessories.  Holsters and cases that contain magnets can cause problems with activation of optional equipment.  Yes, I know - many members are using holsters (with magnets) without any problems - but if you are - this might be the cause.

Thanks for sharing that; it is a great point that I have experienced first hand. I bought a cheap holster at Walmart that works perfectly for the phone. As long as I put it in a certain way that is. When I first got it I noticed my battery dying quite quickly. Then I just happened to notice one time when I put my phone in that it went into the multimedia screen. The magnet made it think it was docked. So, I learned that as long as I turn my phone around and put it in that way every time the magnet will not affect it and won't kill my battery.

Thanks for puting that out there!

You can purchase 'Dock Blocker' from the 'Market' for 99 cents and it will prevent the magnet from putting it in the dock mode.  You can also get free 'Dock Nothingness' and it does the same thing.  I had the problem with my new magnetic case and fixed it with 'Dock Blocker'.

Like waitj2009 mentioned...

  • Dock Blocker (Free) - Dock Blocker allows you to prevent your droid from switching to car or desk dock mode when docked or coming into contact with the ill-placed magnet found in many phone holsters. Includes option to turn the screen back off when docked. Blocking can be toggled on or off.
.
  • Dock Nothingness (Free) - This app doesn't do anything. It does not launch, or have an icon on the launcher since it doesn't do anything.  This is mainly to substitute Dock applications.  It will let you select this app when docking your phone, and you can set it as default, that way when your phone is docked, it won't open any app or do anything.

And Review waitj2009- great find!  Here's a Cookie for you...
