Anyone know of an additional battery that you can connect to the Droid to have additional back-up power? I see people use them for the iPhone, but I am not aware of anything that is safe to use with the Droid. My car charger only goes so far in getting me through a really busy day.

Generally what people do with the Droid is get a second battery, since it's designed to be able to use interchangeable batteries.

When using a cover, that's a pain (and closing and opening battery doors on a phone is asking for trouble -- I do is as seldom as possible). It's no fun to switch batteries on a cell phone. I have less trouble changing the batteries in the home smoke detectors than messing with the battery and cover on a cell phone.

I agree with you completely. Here's the set up I've got. I have my old charger that came with my Dare, which works with the Droid, and I have plugged in to my multimedia station because the cord is longer. I have the charger that came with the Droid, which I use for usb connection to PC. The power cord that came with the multimedia station I keep in my workspace at work. Also, I have my car charger. So basically I've got a charger everywhere. You might see if you can use any old chargers you may have with the Droid, or pick up the multimedia station to get another.

It is a good idea to have more charging cords, but that is still something of a deal for me. For instance, last month I watched a guy on an airline flight put his iPhone in airplane mode. The stewardards let him use it in that mode for the entire flight (1st time I had seen that occur on a major airline! They actually looked at it and approved.). He had an add-on battery and it just seemed so easy. That's what I want. It can be with me even if I am in the woods or working at some location where I have no backup power.

I'm sure there's a plugin of that sort that you can search for online. Just look for a Micro-USB add on battery.

Here's a really nice one I found on Amazon. You might check that out: http://www.amazon.com/iPWR-1800mAh-backup-battery-Motorola/dp/B002YUHJBM

Thanks. I'm a bit paranoid, so I may take this product page and see what the local Verizon people tell me. I don't want to void my insurance on the phone, but if I felt that this would work and I would be covered in case it did do damage to the phone -- Then I would give it a try.

Well, with insurance, you're practically safe to smash your phone with a hammer. Since it's a form of charger, I don't think it could void anything. You might also check the Verizon site for a similar product if they offer it.

I talked to Verizon. They do not offer anything at this time, but said they felt that it likely would be something in future.

Another option...Verizon Motorola Droid AA Battery Booster

Verizon Motorola Droid AA Battery Booster

A device with a dead battery is … well, it’s like any other battery-powered device with a dead battery. Dark and sad and not terribly useful. No doubt that’s why our Verizon Motorola Droid AA Battery Booster is a popular choice for people who need 100% certainty that their device can be charged – even when they don’t have their charger or they’re miles and miles from the nearest electrical outlet.

The Verizon Motorola Droid AA Battery Booster is an ingenious device powered by 4AA batteries. Its proprietary technology draws a charge from the AA batteries and transfers it to your device, thus providing it with the electric power that is its required sustenance. Even if your device is 100% drained – stone cold device d-e-a-d – the Verizon Motorola Droid AA Battery Booster can bring it back to life not once, not twice, but, in fact, 2.5 times. That’s right: You get two-and-a-half complete charges from one set of AA batteries. And it’s fast too: the Battery Extender takes your device from zero to 45% charged in just 20 minutes!

Now, in case you’re worried all this fancy charging is damaging your device, rest assured: Special circuit design protects your device from overcharging and short-circuiting. An LED indicator light lets you know when your device is charged. And by the way, you can use your device right away, while it’s charging – you don’t have to wait till it’s done.

Love charging? Well, then in addition to the Verizon Motorola Droid AA Battery Booster, why not treat yourself to a Car Charger...More
